Photoelectric U, B, V photometry of two faint X-ray binaries, SMC X-1 and Cen X-3, is reported. A resumeof data for eight X-ray binaries indicates that their regular long-period variability reflects forced precession of the optical star's rotation axis, perhaps caused by mild asymmetry of the former supernova outburst in the binary system. The amplitude of the pure elipsoidality effect in the optical star correlates with the X-ray luminosity.
