We have improved the upper limit estimate on the toroidal component of the magnetic field in NGC 4258 at a radius of 0.2 pc from 300 mG (the former limit) to 50 mG. Assuming thermal and magnetic pressure balance, we estimate the accretion rate to be dot{M}/α⪉10-3.5cosθ-2 Msun yr-1 (where α is the viscosity parameter and θ the angle between our line-of-sight and the B field), which is much less than the predicted value of the standard ADAF model.
