A local supersymmetric grand unified model is presented which shows that supergravity couplings cause a spontaneous breaking which removes the degeneracy of different gauge vacua. Consideration is given to N=1 supergravity coupled to left-handed chiral scalar and gauge multiplets. It is shown that gravitational interactions are responsible for electroweak spontaneous breaking at a scale of 300 GeV.
