The radial velocity of the unusual early-type star UV5 in the globular cluster NGC 1851 has been determined on each of seven consecutive nights to an accuracy of better than 4 km/s. In strong contrast to previous observations, the radial velocity of this star was not found to vary. Thus UV5 is no longer a viable candidate for a close binary star system in a globular cluster. Three other 'UV-bright' stars in the field of the cluster are shown to be nonmembers.
