The study of M and L dwarfs has blossomed in the last decade and fundamental distinctions in populations have begun to surface and be studied. Kirkpatrick et al. (2006) recently presented the brown dwarf 2MASS 010415823-4633574 that contains peculiar spectral characteristics prescribed to low-gravity effects due to a young age (<10Myr). These effects also cause differences in the broad-band colors between young and older, field dwarfs at a given spectral type. To allow photometric surveys to distinguish this unusual group without using spectral diagnostics, it is vital to understand the photometric phase space that these objects occupy and to create the most effective way of discovering more such objects. We present visible and infrared broad-band photometry of young, intermediate-age, and old M and L dwarfs derived using combined infrared and optical spectra. A comparison of the optical and infrared colors from this photometry present a first step in facilitating photometric searches for these young M and L dwarfs by cross-matching existing all-sky surveys such as SDSS and 2MASS as well as future photometric large-area surveys such as Pan-STARRS.
