Emission lines from molecules in the Orion Molecular Cloud have a two-component structure; a "spike" feature superposed upon a broader "plateau" feature, with both components being centered at about the same velocity. The plateau feature is confined to a region with a diameter of less than a minute of arc centered on the BN-KL cluster. The present review deals with the observed properties of the plateau component. The available evidence on the position, size, mass, energy, and composition is summarized and the properties of the source are compared with those of other sources and with speculations about the origin and nature of the source.
