The 6th outburst of the recurrent nova RS Oph started with a spectacular shock induced by the expanding ejecta moving into the stellar wind of the companion giant. The radiation produced by this shock was observed in X-rays, and the best spectral resolution was achieved with the gratings aboard Chandra and XMM-Newton. These spectra consist of continuum plus emission lines. We modeled the pure continuum emission with isothermal Bremsstrahlung continua, while excluding the emission lines, which is only possible with Chandra and XMM-Newton grating spectra.
