Moreton waves are traditionally associated with large flares, and may accompany filament and mass ejections. Using high-spectral resolution and high cadence full-disk chromospheric imaging measurements, we track two exceptional Moreton waves (2003 October 29 and 2006 December 6) to understand the nature of this phenomenon. We employ arguments drawn from spectroscopy, wave propagation and formation of prominences to affirm the location of Moreton waves to coronal heights. We present evidence that the Moreton wave sweeps filamentary material and thus became visible in chromospheric spectral line. We suggest a model to describe the associations between the flares, filament eruptions and coronal mass ejections.
