The extragalactic radiation background across a wide wavelengths range from the radio- to the high-energy regime is in part truly diffuse and in part composed of emission from unresolved populations of sources. The cosmic history of light, recorded in the background spectrum, can be probed via γγ-pair creation absorption in high-energy spectra of sources at cosmological distances. GLAST will measure many blazar- and gamma-ray burst spectra and thus provide a significant source sample for studies of the metagalactic radiation field as a function of look-back time.
