Numerous measures of the polarization of the close binary zeta Aurigae are presented, most of which occur within eclipse totality. Most of the observed polarization is interstellar, but there is a small intrinsic and variable polarization component as well. It is shown that the intrinsic polarization cannot be due to the wake trailing the B star nor to scattering of B star light in the K star atmosphere. The most suitable explanation of the intrinsic polarization attributes it to chromospheric inhomogeneities of the supergiant. Thus the binary condition does not cause the polarization.
