The model proposed by Liubimkov and Boiarchuk (1982) is used in determining the abundances of 21 elements in the atmosphere of Canopus. The analysis is based on relatively weak lines so that the influence of inaccuracies in the microturbulence and in the damping will be reduced. The chemical composition of the atmosphere is found to be similar to that of the sun. It is shown that calculations based on resonance lines systematically underestimate the abundance. Through a comparison with evolution calculations (Becker, 1981), the mass, radius, luminosity, and age are found for the supergiants Alpha Car, Alpha UMi, and Gamma Cyg. It is shown that the extension of the atmospheres of these stars is small in comparison with their radii.
