A stable, low cost acousto-optical spectrometer has been developed for millimeter wave observations at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory. This instrument has a bandwidth of 102 MHz, divided into 1024 channels, with an effective resolution of 160 kHz. The spectrometer is stable enough to permit total-power observations with on- and off-source integrations of several minutes. The many measures taken to achieve this stability are described and astronomical tests of the spectrometer are presented. The spectrometer has been in regular use at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory since December 1980.
