We present DEIMOS/Keck II observations of the recently discovered Local Group galaxy Andromeda XII, a satellite of our neighbor and "sister galaxy" Andromeda (M31). Our results mark this galaxy as truly unique in the nearby Universe. They show that Andromeda XII provides our best direct evidence of a key prediction of the hierarchical formation of galaxies in the favored cosmological paradigm, and that it is a unique probe of galaxy evolution in an environment very different to our own.
