The Goddard Space Flight Center Medium Energy particle instrument (GME) on IMP 8 has made nearly continuous observations of the interplanetary 1-230 MeV proton environment near Earth since launch in October, 1973. Though the mission officially terminated in late 2001, observations continue to be made to provide a 1 AU baseline for the Voyager missions. We will discuss some aspects of this extended data set, which spans over three solar cycles, from the decline of cycle 20 to the decline of cycle 23, such as: the occurrence and intensities of solar energetic proton events during the three solar cycles, bidirectional and other unusual particle flows and their association with solar wind structures, in particular interplanetary coronal mass ejections, corotating particle events, and cosmic ray modulations.
