Using high resolution (110,000) and high signal-to-noise ratio optical spectra of UVES, we determined interstellar column densities of C2 for six Galactic sight lines with intermediate E(B-V), less than 1.03. Objects with intermediate colour excess and single velocity component were selected to make sure that molecular lines originate from single clouds. Curve of growth method is applied to equivalent widths for determination of column densities of individual rotational levels. Excitation temperature is extracted from the rotational diagrams for C2. Comparison with the theoretical model of excitation of C2 allows to infer densities and radiative excitation conditions of translucent clouds.
