Evidence is presented suggesting periodicities of 6.44 day and 8.71 day in the X-ray intensities of GX17 + 2 and GX349 + 2. In the former case the periodicity is apparently independent of the large flares which occur in the source, whilst in the latter the periodicity resides entirely in the flares and seems to require a physical rather than a geometrical explanation.
