VLBI data on Cygnus A at 10.65 and 15 GHz are analyzed, under the assumption of the negligibility to temporal fluctuations over a period of a few years, in order to explain the intensity and spectra of the jets in its nucleus. By inferring the inclination of the source axis to the line-of-sight from the parent galaxy rotation axis, which is aligned with the source axis in powerful double radio sources, simple consequences of the relativistic beaming model can be tested. Cygnus A, which is only about 6 degrees from the plane of the sky, is not explained by this model in light of available data. While the hypothesis that the beam flips, alternately supplying energy and plasma to the two outer lobes, can account for current observations, it may have to be rejected upon determination of actual turnover frequencies and more sophisticated models of evolving jets.
