Recent space mission observations of surface and atmospheric conditions are the basis for inferences made regarding the interiors of planetary bodies. Measurements of thermal conditions, magnetic and electronic characteristics, and atmospheric conditions are the most important aspects of the study. General properties of matter are identified, rather than studying particular planetary bodies, but a survey of representative models of the solar system is given. The core of Mercury is deduced to be composed of ferrous material, while the cores of Jupiter and Saturn may be silicate/ferrous mixtures surrounded by 2 hydrogen mantles. A precise study of a planetary body depends on its chemical composition and thermal history, but such details are not yet available.
