Quasars with absorption lines in optical spectra are statistically compared with the quasars without absorption lines. The number of quasars in a sample with absorption lines and without absorption lines is 674 and 3171, respectively. It is found that the luminosity of quasars with absorption lines is on the average 2.2 times greater than that of the quasars without absorption lines at all observed red shifts. Statistical coefficient of confidence exceeds 99%. This result cannot be explained by any selection effect and may lead to a revision of the quasar model and other serious consequences.
