An XMM-Newton deep exposure and variability monitoring of the X-ray bright quasar E1821+643 is proposed. The main aim is to constrain the highly complex iron line profile and its variability: are the very different profiles observed really different, showing iron line fluctuations in both emission and absorption? or are the differences mostly due to lack of S/N in the available data?. The merged spectrum will provide unprecedent data quality to be used as diagnostic for the black hole properties and for the structure and ionization degree of the iron emission line regions. We propose frequent 5ks observations at a very low cost for XMM-Newton because the target has proven robust enough against high radiation environment, hence optimizing the XMM-Newton use.
