We present molecular hydrogen absorption spectroscopy of five circumstellar (CS) disk systems, using the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE). The FUV transitions of H2 are dipole allowed, permitting us to probe low line of sight column densities of the most abundant interstellar molecule. We also include column densities of carbon monoxide from HST-STIS observations, where available. The molecular hydrogen towards these systems shows a wide range of physical characteristics. No line of sight H2 gas was observed in 51 Oph and β Pic. The H2 and CO observed in the AB Aur system have characteristics similar to a diffuse interstellar molecular cloud, and likely lie in a remnant envelope around the star. Toward HD 100546 and HD 163296, the H2 gas has extraordinarily high kinetic temperature and volume density. This paper represents the results to date of the FUSE PI team CS disks project.
