Modeling the thermal X-ray spectra and pulse profiles of radio millisecond pulsars (MSPs) provides important insight into the properties of neutron stars (NSs). In the nearest MSP, J0437--4715, with such modeling we are able to place constraints on the mass-to-radius ratio of the star, the B-field geometry, and surface properties. Application of this powerful method on another system would provide a crucial validity check and allow an additional set of measuremens. An XMM-Newton X-ray study of the nearby PSR J0030+0451, may lead to a major advance towards constraining the NS equation of state and other important NS parameters.
