The gas-to-dust (G/D) mass ratio in circumstellar disks may deviate from the standard interstellar ratio (100:1) as a consequence, e.g., of dust settling in the disk. We propose to study a sample of large disks around classical T Tau stars to determine the G/D along the sightlines toward the central stars. We apply state-of-the-art 3-D modeling of the geometry and composition of the dust disk based on optical and infrared imaging, photometry and polarimetry. We will derive the gas column density along the sightlines toward the star by measuring the photoelectric absorption in X-ray spectra. We have tested the method in a pilot study on a low-mass T Tau star in Taurus. Molecular Cloud. Here, we request observing time for three objects.
