It is shown that the longitudinal electric field associated with observed electrostatic turbulence in the solar wind modifies the dispersion characteristics of MHD waves propagating along the interface between the solar wind and cometary plasma. Extremely weak turbulence tends to stabilize these waves, while moderate turbulence can be stabilizing or destabilizing depending on the strength of the cometary magnetic field relative to the interplanetary magnetic field. When the cometary field is stronger than the interplanetary magnetic field, destabilization is not possible.
