We request 125ks of EPIC observations to cover four overlapping pointings toward the large-scale Galactic Center Lobe (GCL). The GCL consists of a collection of remarkable thermal and nonthermal coherent components with a scale length of about 150 pc perpendicular to the Galactic plane. There is circumstantial evidence for a mild starburst activity and the GCL is viewed as a manifestation of powerful massive stars affecting their surrounding ISM in a starburst episode. The proposed X-ray observations of diffuse X-ray emission from the GCL is critical in order to examine the starburst model seriously. We believe, due to its proximity, the GCL will provide insight to the nature of more distant starburst activities and the interface between the different gas phases.
