We present preliminary results from a project of near-IR and optical
spectroscopy of young, massive star clusters in the Antennae and M82. By
searching for variations in the properties of over 30 clusters in each
of these two systems, constraints can be placed upon cluster formation
mechanisms and future cluster evolution.
