Fourier analysis technique is used to analyze the H II region distribution in M 51, M 33, NGC 2997, and M 31. In all cases it is found that a few components can represent the observed distribution very well. The sum of these components defines an area of some 15-35 percent of the total surface galaxy which contains 75-90 percent of all the H II regions. In M51 the well-known two-armed spiral and the observed N-S symmetry were obtained along with the highest amplitude for the M equals 2 component. In M 33 an M equals 2 component delineating the two-armed spiral in the central 12 arcmin of the galaxy is brought out, while for NGC 2997 a strong m equals 2 and a weaker m equals 3 component are discernible. In M 31 the two-armed trailing component is shown to be dominant in the outer parts while the one-armed leading component is dominant further in. The results agree with previous theoretical models.
