Binary stars with known absolute dimensions were used to determine the distance to LMC and SMC, and to globular clusters during recent years. This independent method could serve as a tool to select between the disputed short and long distance scales. Thus, its accuracy and possible errors are crucial from this point of view, especially because the results are in contradiction in several cases.
