I present a comparison of these two techniques for high angular resolution studies of binary and multiple stars. Lunar occultations observers have accumulated a large database of newly discovered binary systems, which have not been properly followed up for lack of angular resolution or sensitivity. With the introduction of large and sensitive interferometers such as the VLTI and Keck, this gap can soon be filled. Lunar occultations are a relatively simple technique, which is well suited especially for routine programs at small and medium size telescopes and can serve as a pathfinder method for dedicated interferometric observations. We also mention how the knowledge gained from lunar occultation observations can help to constrain and simplify the process of fitting binary parameters to interferometric data.
