The method of disentangling, which consists of simultaneous decomposition of spectra of multiple stellar systems and solution of orbital parameters has proved to be an effective way of determination of physical parameters of the component stars, applicable even for cases with highly blended spectral lines. The basic principle of disentangling and its relation to several other spectroscopic methods is reviewed here and a new generalization of the method for intrinsic line-profile variability is introduced.
