The Jovian satellite of Io is discussed in relation to its internal energy and the thermophysics of its surface. The photometric variability, the evolution of its volatile inventory, the stability of the sulfur slopes, the near surface flow of volcanic gases, the mass injection rate from Io into the Io plasma torus, and the Joule heating of its ionosphere by unipolar induction currents are considered. Various aspects of the Jovian rings are reviewed, and observations of the other satellite are also discussed.
