The Darun (1977) time-dependent convection theory is applied to the study of nonpulsating stars in the Cepheid strip. The results of an investigation of the growth rate for small amplitude pulsations by nonadiabatic linear approximation methods show that a star is pulsationally stable within the Cepheid strip when its luminosity is lower than a critical value which depends on stellar mass. This may account for the stable stars in the Cepheid strip. A detailed analysis is given of the behavior of the Cepheid instability strip.
