We have obtained different lower and upper limits on the age and density of the Universe in the framework of general relativity (including the cosmological Λ term). The corresponding geometries satisfy certain weak conditions and the content is represented by either a general fluid whose equation of state is bounded in the form 0<=p<=ρ or a perfect fluid with a barotropic equation of state satisfying the stability and causality conditions. We have also studied the relative radius-red-shift relation for general models and have obtained bounds for particular ones.
