The response in a non-self-gravitating gaseous disc to a weak oval distortion of an axisymmetric gravitational potential is studied through numerical experiments. The response in the gas is in the form of a well-defined spiral pattern, which is well correlated with the two outer resonances. The extent and orientation of a central distorted ring is found to depend on the innermost Lindblad resonance.
