An emission nebula in the constellation Sagittarius, position RA 18 h
02.6 m, dec. -23° 02'. It is of ninth magnitude, with quite a high
surface brightness, and measures 29' by 27'. It surrounds the multiple
star HN 40, the light of whose brightest members energize the nebula.
The Trifid gets its name from dark lanes that trisect it....
