A supernova remnant in Ophiuchus, approximately 2.2° east of ξ Ophiuchi. The star was first seen in October 1604 by Johannes Kepler (1571-1630), and described in his book De Stella Nova. It reached a maximum apparent magnitude of -2.5 and remained visible to the unaided eye for about a year. The records indicate that it was a type Ia supernova.
