A faint red dwarf star (apparent magnitude 8.86, spectral type M0V), situated in the southern constellation of Pictor, about 12'' north-west of Canopus. Discovered by the Dutch astronomer Jacobus Kapteyn (1851-1922) in 1897, it is notable for having the second largest proper motion known: its motion of 8.67'' per annum is exceeded only by that of Barnard's Star.
