The influence of overshooting during H-burning on the occurrence of loops during He-burning is investigated with emphasis on Cepheid stars. The evolution from the zero-age main sequence through He-burning is calculated for stars of extreme Population I and masses between 4 and 8 solar masses. The change of the X-profile due to overshooting has a strong influence on the loops in the HRD during central He-burning. The treatment of the outer convection zone is varied in test calculations, and while overshooting from this zone has little influence, an important effect is obtained by a reduction of the mixing length in the super-adiabatic layer. The variation in the extension of the loops resulting from different assumptions in the calculations can be associated with the corresponding changes in the chemical structure of the stars.
