This star, sometimes known as `Almaaz' or `Al Anz', is an eclipsing binary of the same type as Algol, but of exceptionally long period. It is a pale yellow supergiant of spectral type F0Ia, apparent magnitude 3.03v. It is intrinsically brilliant (absolute magnitude -6.0), its luminosity having been estimated as about 200 000 times that of the Sun, but it is 2040 light-years away, with a parallax ...
