Faraday rotation measurements were made on a sample of 163 pulsars using the 76-m Mk IA radio telescope at Jodrell Bank, and improved values of dispersion measure are presented. The present measurements are combined with previous observations in order to reveal the magnetic field distribution throughout the Galaxy, which is shown to be uniform over large regions. A mean value of the parallel component of the magnetic field along the line-of-sight to the pulsar of 1.232 RM/DM microG is derived.
