Variable redshifted absorption features observed in the spectrum of Beta Pictoris have been attributed to comet-like bodies falling toward the star. If most of these comets belong to a single orbital family, then the lack of a corresponding complement of comets moving away from Beta Pic could be easily explained. We show herein that spatial variations in the spectrum of Beta Pic, which result from the stellar rotation, should have observable effects in the temporal variations of the spectral signatures of comets passing in front of the star. We suggest an observing strategy based on these theoretical spectral variations which will allow the determination of the direction of passage of the comets in front of Beta Pic, and will provide additional tests of the falling evaporating body model for the spectral variations observed in Beta Pic.
