We report the results of the detailed study of the position of KY Cep on photographic plates. The position was checked on 1664 plates taken in the time period of 1928-1992 at the Ondrejov and Sonneberg Observatories with negative results: no brightening exceeding 8-16 mag was revealed. We discuss the possible nature of the flashing object denominated as KY Cephei.
