The frequency of outbursts of type I and II supernovae in galaxies of different types has been determined on the basis of the observational data of the supernova search at the Sternberg Astronomical Institute and Asiago Astrophysical Observatory. For a number of galaxies the expected supernova rate is compared with independent estimates. The probable range of the mass of supernova progenitors is determined. No difference has been found in the distributions of type I and II supernovae along the radius and z-coordinate in spiral galaxies, the distributions indicate that supernovae belong to the young population I.
