The possibility that the X-ray background is due to an intergalactic plasma (IGP) is re-examined. Relativistic corrections to the thermodynamics of the IGP and to the electron-electron as well as to the electron-proton bremsstrahlung are taken into account. Instantaneous heating at an epoch zm ≈ 2 - 4 is assumed. With this relativistic calculation, theoretical spectra still remain in good agreement with observational data, but IGP parameters differ from nonrelativistic models.
