Scientific paper

Recent developments in the theory of the boundary layer are considered. The model for the formation of a corona above the WD is discussed in some detail. The interaction of the boundary layer with the stellar interior, and possible mixing between the hydrogen-rich accreted matter and the core material, are discussed in view of recent numerical simulations of the boundary layer.
