Two NASA missions to explore Mars, originally due for launch in April 2001 but now postponed. The orbiter will carry a high-resolution infrared imaging spectrometer and a gamma ray spectrometer to map surface composition and hydrogen in the soil. The lander will carry an infrared spectrometer and a small roving vehicle with a robotic arm to collect soil samples, a radiation environment experiment...
