When a beam of light is reflected from a mirror or DIFFRACTION GRATING the angle of incidence (θ) is measured from the surface normal (perpendicular to the surface) to the light ray. If this angle is greater than about 80° the reflection is said to be at grazing incidence and the angle between the surface and the ray is called the grazing angle.
