With the exception of Zöllner's measurements and some other sporadic data, virtually no colour measurements were available by the middle of the 19th century. On the instigation of Konkoly, Ógyalla observer Rudolph von Kövesligethy carried out colour measurements of a number of bright stars. Though at that time it was by no means clear to what extent celestial colorimetry would contribute to astrophysics, Kövesligethy found the topic interesting enough to undertake a colour survey of the skies. He collected 614 colorimetric measurements of 75 stars, and his list also included colorimetry of Mars and Saturn. In this paper we present the relation between Kövesligethy's colour scale and the modern B-V colour index, and compare this to similar relations constructed for Zöllner's colorimetric observations.
