A model explaining periodic variations observed in the light curve of Sco X-1 is proposed. The model is successful in predicting the masses and dimensions of the Sco X-1 system as well as its distance. The calculated parameters are very similar to those of the Her X-1-HZ Her stellar system, possibly indicating the existence of a class of binary X-ray sources associated with Population II objects. Some of the observed features are not explained by the model.
