Mechanisms of electron injection and loss in the outer magnetosphere were studied on the basis of a model for the spatial distribution of high-energy electrons in magnetic and electric fields. To facilitate comparison with experimental data, the spatial distribution was calculated for the case of two values of the L-parameters: 5.6 and 6.6, the former corresponding to a latitude of roughly 65 degrees and the latter to the geostationary orbit. Electron distribution was determined by computing electron orbits in the equatorial plane and the effects of convection were taken into account on the basis of an electric-field model specifying two electric-field components - a uniform and a nonuniform component. Results show that the source of electron injection is localized in the post-midnight sector and the filling of electron shells in the eastern and western directions.
